"Are We a Competitive Force?"
Oct. 2nd conference to address the need for a sustainable workforce in the Upstate
August 20, 2007 ––– As Upstate South Carolina continues to attract top international corporations with its pro-growth, business-friendly environment, the issue of our pending workforce crisis is quickly becoming a priority.
How will we continue to compete as a region with more and more workers heading into retirement? Who will follow in their footsteps and help maintain the Upstate’s edge? How do we maintain and build our talent level? Is our education system prepared?
Randall Kempner, Vice President for Regional Innovation at the Council on Competitiveness, and Jim Clinton, Executive Director of the Southern Growth Policies Board, will be the featured speakers for “Are We a Competitive Force?”, a conference addressing the need for a world-class, sustainable workforce in the Upstate. The event, to be held Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at Carolina First Center, will also feature a dialogue with the speakers to be moderated by Hal Johnson, President and CEO of Upstate Alliance.
With his vast experience in competitiveness and regional innovation, Mr. Kempner will focus on workforce development strategies at the national and state levels.
Mr. Clinton’s presentation will include analysis of the state of the Southern workforce, recommendations for action and innovative initiatives at the state level.
