2 And 3 Position Low-Profile Connector Uses IDC Technology for Quick and Easy Assembly

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AVX Corporation has developed a connector that permits users to connect individual wires to a single row of contacts by utilizing IDC technology. Designated the 9175 Series, the low-profile (3.45mm) connector features a small PCB footprint and is quick and easy to assemble, making the connector ideal for high volume applications like those for the consumer market.

“Used for connecting two or three wires to printed circuit boards, the 9175 Series connector saves precious PCB real-estate by conforming to the standards of the consumer market with its low-profile and small footprint,” said Bob Bastian, AVX Product Manager for Connectors. “In addition to high-volume applications, the 9175 Series connector can also be used in intricate and flexible connection applications for high-value devices.”

Available as a 2- and 3-way IDC connector, a special application hand tool enables the quick and easy assembly. Before assembly, the connector is surface-mounted to the PCB. Using the single-wire insertion hand tool, 26 or 28 AWG solid/ stranded wires are inserted into the contact slot. This process cuts the insulation and enables the individual conductors of the wire to form a homogeneous joint. The shape of the molding forms a restraint to the wire when fully inserted in the contact.

Contact material is of phosphor bronze. Insulation material is high-temperature nylon 46. Parts offer a current rating of 1A continuous through all contacts at 25°C (ambient), with a voltage rating of 125V, delivering a minimum insulation resistance of 100MΩ, and a maximum termination resistance of 20mΩ. Devices operate between -40°C and 80°C.

The 9175 connector is supplied in tape and reel packing and is RoHS-compliant. Pricing typically starts at $0.28 in quantities of 10,000 with a lead time of 10 weeks.
