CHARLESTON, S.C.--Nov. 8, 2005 – The Charleston Digital Corridor is pleased to announce that the average wage for reporting corridor companies in 2005 is $65,707. This figure represents twice the average annual wage for the Charleston-North Charleston statistical metropolitan area and the State of South Carolina.
The latest data available from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the average wage in the Charleston-North Charleston statistical metropolitan area (Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties) is $32,510, while South Carolina’s average wage for all occupations is $31,760.
“The results of the 2005 Wage Survey demonstrate that the average salaries of Digital Corridor companies remain very strong,” said Charleston Digital Corridor Foundation Chairman, Kirk King, also a Corridor CEO. Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to Charleston’s growing knowledge-based community and pledged to strengthen the Digital Corridor's programming in 2006. “The Digital Corridor initiatives introduced in 2004 and early 2005 are yielding results for our community,” he added.
