Creates New Position; Sets Ambitious New Goals
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - In an unprecedented move by a South Carolina energy company,
Santee Cooper today announced the creation of a new position, the Vice President of Conservation and Renewable Energy, who will report directly to CEO Lonnie N. Carter and manage a department focused on the company’s extensive conservation and renewable energy initiatives.

The move was approved today by the Santee Cooper Board of Directors who also approved an
ambitious goal for the utility: to create 40 percent (more than four times its present level!) of its energy from non-greenhouse gas (GHG) emitting resources, biomass fuels, energy efficiency and conservation by 2020.
Board Chairman O.L. Thompson said, “This aggressive and far-reaching policy will chart a bold new direction regarding Santee Cooper’s conservation and renewable efforts. Today’s action
demonstrates the full board’s support and its ongoing commitment to conservation. Our new commitment will ensure the proper resources are in place, thereby giving conservation efforts the attention, relevancy and focus they deserve.”

Making the announcement, Carter said, "Santee Cooper has been a leader in protecting our environment, being the first utility in the state to offer Green Power, generating electricity using landfill gas, promoting conservation and energy efficiency, installing state-of-the-art emission
control technology, and funding innovative research into alternative forms of energy. Today’s announcement strengthens those initiatives by creating an organizational structure that accurately reflects our commitment, and setting goals that stretch us to do the very best for our customers
and our environment.”

Marc Tye, a 23-year veteran of Santee Cooper, has been named to the new position as vice
president of conservation and renewable energy. Tye has a strong background in utility system operations and economics, wholesale power sales and purchase agreements, utility finance and management. He previously served as manager of corporate analysis and pricing. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from The Citadel. He has been a registered Professional Engineer in the State of South Carolina since
1986.
