C of C Named Best Value for Public Universities

January 08, 2008

The College of Charleston ranks in the top 14 percent of the nation’s public universities in providing “a first-rate education without breaking the bank,” according to Kiplinger’s “Best Values in Public Colleges.”

The publication looks at 500 of the nation’s public universities to determine the top 100 for its annual honor roll. The national ranking, which puts the College of Charleston 70th for the best value for in-state students and 67th in out-of-state value, appears in February edition.

Kiplinger's looks at a number of factors to determine “outstanding academic quality plus an affordable price tag.” Those factors include undergraduate enrollment size, SAT/ACT scores, student-faculty ratio, graduation rates, total costs before and after financial aid and average debt at graduation.

The College of Charleston is a nationally preeminent, public liberal arts and sciences university located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina. With a student population of approximately 9800 undergraduates and 1400 graduate students, the College is known for its small-college feel blended with the advantages and diversity of an urban, mid-sized university. Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is among the nation’s top universities for quality education, student life and affordability.
