Group Establishes Professorship at College of Charleston’s Real Estate Center
The Charleston Trident Association of REATORS® (CTAR) Board of Directors has agreed to establish the first endowed professorship for the Carter Center of Real Estate at the College of Charleston. The CTAR gift will be matched by the Carter family of Atlanta, GA, who established the Carter Center of Real Estate in 2006 with a $1million gift. The Carters promised to give the Real Estate Center an additional $500,000 if the College could match that amount with other gifts.
The CTAR Board of Directors have committed to contributing $25,000 per year for the next 5 years to support the College’s efforts to educate real estate professionals. Half of the funding will be provided by the Charleston Trident Multiple Listing Service, a wholly owned subsidiary of CTAR, which is also committed to collaborating with the Carter Center through other in-kind services when possible.
The Carter Real Estate Center has recently appointed a Director for the Center. Dr. Tim Allen received his PhD in 1992 from the University of Georgia with a major in real estate and minors in economics and finance. He is currently a professor of Real Estate at Florida Atlantic University where he teaches real estate investment and development; real estate appraisal and real estate finance. He is the co author of the text “Real Estate Principals” published by Dearborn Press which is now in its 9th edition and is the author of almost 60 academic articles in the field. He serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education and the Appraisal Journal. The Center looked for someone who could bridge the academic and business worlds and in Tim Allen the Center has found someone with tremendous experience in the field holding Florida broker and appraiser licenses. He has been very active in the real estate community in Fort Lauderdale.
The College of Charleston’s School of Business and Economics is directly supported by both State and private funding. In turn the School directly supports economic development in the State through its Economic Partnership. The Economic Partnership currently includes programs in Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Global Logistics and Trade and Real Estate. Each of these programs provides educational programs, targeted faculty expertise, research and community outreach. These programs serve the state by providing ideal opportunities for education, research and enhanced entrepreneurial activity through enduring partnerships between the College and the community to further economic development and expand opportunities for all the citizens of the low country.
