SC BIO CEO Karl Kelly Accepts New Opportunity With Clemson

GREENWOOD, SC- The Board of Governors of SC BIO announced today that CEO Karl Kelly has tendered a resignation to accept a new opportunity with Clemson University. Mr. Kelly has served SC BIO since its formation some five and a half years ago. During a transition time, Mr. Kelly will act in a consulting capacity for the organization.

Chairman of the Board Stephen Jones stated, “On behalf of the board, we express our thanks to Mr. Kelly for his leadership, energy, and dedication provided to the organization. SC BIO and the commercialization efforts within the state of South Carolina have been greatly enhanced because of his efforts. We are pleased that Mr. Kelly will maintain a consulting relationship during a transition time as the Board seeks new leadership. We extend appreciation for his commitment to South Carolina and the assistance in moving the state toward a technology based-economy.”

Ashley Hannah has been named as the Interim Director to support the organization during the transition term. Ms. Hannah has been with SC BIO for over five years serving as Manager of Communications.

Currently working with over sixty emerging life science technologies and companies, SC BIO was formed to grow the biotechnology industry in South Carolina. The organization is headquartered in Greenwood and also has offices in Charleston and Columbia.

SC BIO works with research centers such as the Greenwood Genetic Center, the research universities, Savannah River National Laboratory, and NOAA/Hollings Marine Complex to commercialize promising technologies and form new companies. The organization performs technology reviews, market evaluations, and other support activities for early stage companies- bringing biotechnology into the state’s economy.

SC BIO (The South Carolina Biotechnology Incubation Program) is a public/private, not-for-profit organization composed of industry, university, and private entities collaborating to develop new life science companies in South Carolina. SC BIO is a catalyst that aids in commercialization supporting financial growth, process development, and marketing for emerging life science companies.
