Sunstore Solar Announces Partnership with Furman University.

Sunstore Solar is pleased to announce that they have been selected as the solar integrator for the new Duke Energy Solar Learning Center at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. The entire project, called the Duke Energy Village, will be home to the new Cliffs Cottage at Furman University which is Southern Living magazine’s next Showcase Home. The Cliffs Cottage will feature many low-energy and “green” details including a solar water heater and a solar electric system. Surrounding Cliffs Cottage, the village will highlight several other solar technologies.

The project calls for demonstrating various solar products implemented in a variety of ways; mounting photovoltaic (PV) modules on shingles and metal roofs, using traditional PV modules as well as thin-film laminates and bi-facial PV, integrating solutions into building structures such as a trellis or a parking cover. Another aspect of the Cliffs Cottage will be a GridPoint power management device. The house of the future will not only generate its own power with solar, but will monitor and control electric usage in concert with peak electric grid-usage.

"Sunstore's technical advice and expertise have been essential to our efforts to integrate renewable energy systems into Furman's Cliffs Cottage," said Furman president David E. Shi. "Sunstore staff members have educated us about a variety of photovoltaic applications, and they have helped us design a solar demonstration site for the public. We thank Bruce Wood and David Odell for their tireless efforts to deepen our understanding of new technologies. As energy costs rise, Sunstore Solar represents a significant resource to our region."

“A project like this comes around once in a lifetime. We are honored to be part of this truly visionary project”, said David Odell, President of Sunstore Solar. “With more than 30kW of solar capacity planned, Furman University is leading the way in the Southeast when it comes to acting on their sustainability plans. When completed it will be a tremendous resource for the entire state of South Carolina.”
