SCRA’S SC LAUNCH! INVESTS $200,000 IN UPSTATE’S PINPOINT GEOTECH
Clemson Firm Helps Deliver Fuel Savings to Government Public Works Agencies
CLEMSON, SC – July 7, 2008 – Clemson-based PinPoint GeoTech, LLC., a technology company which delivers to governmental agencies a simple, effective, and affordable PinPoint GeoWorks™ product suite that saves time and money, while reducing greenhouse emissions, will receive a $200,000 investment from SCRA affiliate SC Launch today at the City of Clemson’s City Hall.
The Public Works Department of the City of Clemson, with support from City Administrator Rick Cotton, Mayor Larry Abernathy and City Council members, collaborated with PinPoint GeoTech to develop technology to help public works departments cope with critical issues like rising fuel cost and environmental issues and provide them with effective technologies that reduce risks, minimize costs, and benefit the environment. Early adopting cities have reported savings as high as 10 percent to 60 percent in debris removal operation fuel costs after implementing PinPoint GeoTech systems.
“Recognition by the South Carolina Research Authority and SC Launch! is a powerful acknowledgement that PinPoint GeoTech is a viable technology company that will contribute to South Carolina’s Knowledge Economy,” Jim Oswald, CEO of PinPoint GeoTech, said. “The investment by SCRA’s SC Launch! will be a significant contribution to help PinPoint GeoTech springboard our South Carolina technology into a national and global enterprise.”
This is the second major investment in the Clemson based PinPoint GeoTech in the last month. Along with its strong early sales revenues, PinPoint GeoTech has received another $75k in private investment and is currently working with two statewide investment groups to secure additional capital to ramp up operations.
The Award-winning PinPoint - Public Works™, the company’s leading GPS-based software for the management of debris removal operations, is being purchased throughout the Southeast by governmental agencies representing mainly cities and counties, many in South Carolina. The Georgia Municipal Association will soon market PinPoint GeoTech systems to its 502 members as a Preferred Vendor.
“SCRA’s SC Launch! is proud to support companies like PinPoint GeoTech, which bring recognition and high-paying jobs to South Carolina,” Bill Mahoney, CEO of SCRA, said. “PinPoint GeoTech represents another rich example of South Carolina’s strong, developing technology landscape that pervades information technology, biotech, advanced materials, and alternative energy. As with many SC Launch! portfolio companies, this recognition positions PinPoint GeoTech to attract the larger capital investments which they need for further growth.”
PinPoint GeoTech, which was successfully spun off from 20-year-old OA Technology Group, delivers GPS innovations to multiple government departments in a meaningful way – delivering dramatic results for cost effectiveness and enhancement of the environment. Its simplicity can empower both fleet drives and office clerical personnel to initiate system-wide process improvements. PinPoint - Public Works reduces fuel used, decreases miles driven to cut wear-and-tear on vehicles, and positively impacts the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This application provides government entities with simple, affordable and effective GPS technology to assist with curb-side debris removal.
PinPoint GeoTech is led by Oswald and his partner Taji Richardson, both recognized technology executives who have developed multiple, effective technologies for governmental and commercial applications. Oswald is also a recognized leader in the Clemson area, and Co-founder Taji Richardson is a software and communications expert who has developed multiple solutions for governmental and private entities.
PinPoint GeoTech has received three awards for its advances:
• The 2007 Innovision Small Enterprise Award;
• The 2008 SC Municipal Insurance Trust Safety Award, and;
• The 2008 Municipal Association of South Carolina Public Works Innovation Award.
The PinPoint GeoTech announcement follows a series of others by SC Launch! In recent months, more than two dozen start-up initiatives across the state have received financial support from SC Launch. In Greenville, such companies as Vigilix, Q Tires, Zipit Wireless, and Selah Technologies have also received SC Launch investments. Other SC Launch portfolio companies across the state include Argolyn Bioscience, Sabal Medical and DigitalDerm.
