Open Source Development Course at Clemson

Open source software (OSS) is a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency of process. The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in. OSS development does not necessarily mean that the software is free (as in free beer) but rather is comes with no strings attached (as in individual freedoms).

Open source development practices are considerably different from closed source practices. The purpose of this course is to explore these practices and to apply them to a project.

Professional software developers are encouraged to contact Stevenson with topics or tips.

The CP SC 481-003 class will be held MWF at 9:05AM in 303 Daniel beginning January 7. For questions, contact Dr. Steve Stevenson, steve@cs.clemson.edu
