UNC Charlotte Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications Symposium on Solar Power

The 7th Annual Optics Center Symposium at UNC Charlotte will take place in the salons in the Student Activity Center (SAC) on Thursday November 6th. This all day meeting will include several keynote speakers, including Dr. Michael Lebby, President of the Optoelectronics Industry Association, Dr. Angelo Mascarenhas from NREL and Dr. Rob Walters from NRL. The newly state-funded Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) will be described by Dhiaa Jamil along with speakers describing new national and regional activities focused on harvesting light, such as Dr. Edwin Walker’s talk on Powering the Planet. There will be a presentation on the recently funded NSF Engineering Research Center at NCSU for the creation of a green energy grid (FREEDM) by Dr. Alex Huang and a presentation by Dr. Steve Kalland, the Director of the NC Solar Center. We will also showcase solar-related research in the Center and at some Carolinas Photonics Consortium partner schools (see attached schedule).
In addition to several presentations on global trends and funding opportunities in this field, we want to make this event relevant to the many companies and R&D initiatives in the Carolinas already in the solar power business. We would like to invite you to join us on November 6th and showcase your company and/or interests at this important sustainable energy conference. If you would like to participate in one or more of the following please let us know as soon as possible:
i) present a poster
ii) request exhibit space for a table-top
iii) request space for a product demonstration
Space in the exhibit hall is unfortunately limited and there is a $300 exhibitor fee, which includes 3 free meeting registrations. For those interested in table-top space, please contact Scott Williams (scotwill@uncc.edu)
