MTC Hosts Public Hearing as Part of Statewide Study on Higher Education

Midlands Technical College and the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce will host a public hearing on the Higher Education Study Committee draft recommendations for a statewide plan for higher education.

The meeting will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, in the Academic Center Auditorium of the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus. The public is welcome and encouraged to take part in this process.

In 2007, the General Assembly created a Higher Education Study Committee to work with the S.C. Commission on Higher Education to make recommendations for a statewide higher education strategic plan. The committee has developed a plan centered on four goals including 1) making South Carolina one of the most educated states, 2) increasing research and innovation, 3) making South Carolina a leader in workforce training and educational services and 4) realizing South Carolina’s potential: resources and effectiveness.

Work is on-going to develop implementation details for each of the goals. The study committee is seeking public input on their recommendations prior to releasing a full report to the General Assembly in December.
