9th Annual ThinkTEC Innovation Summit - February 11

In its ninth year, The ThinkTEC Innovation Summit will focus on the viable relationship between business and creativity. Creativity establishes the landscape in which businesses can operate and flourish in the Charleston region. The Summit is not about art, but about the commerce stimulating innovation and business growth. A creative-minded region fosters economic development. A tangible creative environment creates a foundation for attracting and retaining businesses.

Highlights of the ThinkTEC Innovation Summit include:

  • An update on why the creative cluster was included in the Angelou Economics Report by Amy Holloway. Now a private consultant, Amy will speak on the progress of this cluster , strategies for improvement and an overview of what is happening nationally.
  • Gordon Knox of the Stanford Humanities lab will discuss how commerce profits can be created when a match between art and business occurs.
  • Rick Throckmorton will close the event with a discussion on innovation and the U.S. economy in 2009.
  • Breakout sessions on a myriad of topics including: attracting and retaining creative business, publishing, the art of creating a business, the restoration economy, the film and media industry, cultivating a creative workforce, an update on the local creative cluster, the process of taking your career from amateur to professional, and hot topics in architecture and design.
  • An exhibition hall featuring knowledge-based companies in the region as well as local artisans demonstrating their crafts in painting, textiles, woodworking, pottery and much more.
  • A culinary showcase featuring an interactive display of the local world-class talent who have turned the region into an exciting culinary destination.
  • The announcement of the 4th Annual New Ideas for a New Carolina Business Idea Contest.
  • The 2009 ThinkTEC award recipient will be honored.
  • Special recognition of the three local collegiate finalist teams of the Juicy Ideas Contest, sponsored by Google.

    The event attracts all business professionals. The audience will leave the conference with a better understanding of how creativity is vital to growing business, how to infuse creativity into their own businesses, how creative environments help fuel innovation and how stellar regions possess a viable business/creativity balance.

    The event will be held at the College Center at the Complex for Economic Development at Trident Technical College. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m with the program running from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The awards ceremony along with a celebration and after-party will take place from 5 - 7 p.m. Members of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce can attend for $125 while non-members can attend for $225.
