UPSTATE FOREVER ANNOUNCES HIGH PERFORMANCE
RENOVATION TRAINING – FIRST IN THE SOUTHEAST

Upstate Forever, Duke Energy and the South Carolina Energy Office are pleased to host
the Southface Institute’s first ever full-day High Performance Renovation Training on
Tuesday, February 3rd in Spartanburg. In the current economy, many homeowners
are choosing to improve or expand their existing home rather than build, and they are
demanding higher performance standards for this construction.
This 7.5 hour course will be taught by Daniel Harvey, the EarthCraft House™
Renovation Project Manager. EarthCraft House™ is a green building certification
program based at the Southface Institute in Atlanta. Upstate Forever has hosted several
EarthCraft House™ Builder Training classes in recent years, but this is the first class in
the Southeast which will focus on renovation principles and is paving the way to having
EarthCraft House™ Renovation certification available in South Carolina.
The class is open to builders, renovators, contractors, building inspectors, realtors,
engineers, architects, property managers, do-it-yourselfers, and homeowners and will be
held at The Showroom in Spartanburg (149 S. Daniel Morgan Ave.). Topics will include
high performance renovation priorities and advantages, building science fundamentals
(the movement of heat, air and moisture), high performance building envelope and
systems (foundations, floors, framing, moisture management, windows, doors and
insulation), high performance HVAC (ducts and duct design, priorities for improving
indoor air quality, ventilation), water use – indoor and out, waste management, and site planning.
Space is limited to 40 participants, and Upstate Forever members pay a reduced rate. The
cost is $135 for non-members and $100 for Upstate Forever members. Lunch (sponsored
by Neely’s Building Supplies), snacks, and a training binder are included. Registration
