Laura And Mike Baur, CEO Of ScanSource, Honored By SC Montessori Alliance

COLUMBIA, S.C., FEBRUARY 24, 2009: Laura and Mike Baur, CEO of ScanSource, were honored by the South Carolina Montessori Alliance (SCMA) for outstanding advocacy of Montessori education in the State of South Carolina at the annual Governor’s Proclamation luncheon on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.

The Baur’s contributions to scholarships and funding Five Oaks Academy, Inc., a private Montessori school in Simpsonville, with programs for children from age 3 to Middle School, were cited for the lasting educational legacy they have created.

Kathleen Trewhella-Grant, chair of SCMA, presented the award along with the entire board of SCMA. The annual Montessori Week luncheon celebrates Montessori Week in the State, as well as the Nation, and Governor Sanford’s proclamation honors this 101 year old innovative method of education. Ginny Riga, appointed by S.C. State Superintendent of Education Jim Rex to the Office of Public School Choice, attended the luncheon representing her new role for Montessori education in the State Department of Education. Two State Representatives attended the luncheon along with several Montessori teachers and trainers from across the state of South Carolina.
