GADC Adds Willis Meadows to Board of Directors
GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC – March 5, 2009 – The Greenville Area Development Corporation, the county-chartered organization tasked with promoting and enhancing the economic growth of Greenville County, has announced the addition of Greenville County Councilman Willis Meadows to the organization’s Board of Directors.
GADC President & CEO Jerry Howard and Board Chairman Jay Rogers jointly announced the addition of Mr. Meadows to serve a three-year term on the Board.
“Mr. Meadows is knowledgeable about the Greenville community and will play an important, participative role in helping to attract quality jobs to Greenville County,” said Howard in making the announcement. “His leadership and perspective as a member of Greenville County’s Finance Committee and Public Safety Committee will also serve the county and the GADC well as we seek to strategically grow our economic base in Greenville County.”
Mr. Meadows is a longtime resident of Greenville County and the owner of Willis Meadows Insurance. Prior to entering the insurance business, Mr. Meadows served as administrator and principal at two Greenville County public high schools and as headmaster at Shannon Forest Christian School. He has served his community as chairman of the Greenville Legislative Delegation’s Transportation Committee, as a director of Miracle Hill Ministries, and as an elder at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Meadows succeeds departing GADC Board Member Judy Gilstrap, who had served on the Board in an ex-officio capacity since 2005 in her former role as vice chair of Greenville County Council. With current GADC Board member Bob Taylor assuming the vice chair role on County Council, an opening was created for a new Board member which Mr. Meadows will fill.
Since its inception in 2001, the Greenville Area Development Corporation has announced support of more than 140 major projects representing over$1.8 billion in capital investment and creating in excess of 8,900 new jobs. Private sector support of the GADC has also reached an all-time high, with 125 investor companies now contributing to the community’s and GADC’s success.
Rogers thanked Ms. Gilstrap for her service on the Board and to the community. “Judy Gilstrap has played a significant role in serving this community and helping move forward Greenville’s economic development mission, and for her contributions we are immensely grateful,” said Rogers.
