College of Charleston Introduces New CLforJava

The College of Charleston announced the Open Source release of CLforJava, a project to create a software language platform for developing solutions for hyper-complex systems such as network security, climate change, and the Semantic Web.

The announcement was made this week at the International Lisp Conference held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

This software project intertwines the Common Lisp programming language with the Java programming language to make a system that integrates the best facets of these powerful languages to solve complex problems on any machine that can run the Java Virtual Machine.

This project has been the core of the capstone software engineering class of the Computer Science curriculum at the College of Charleston. To date, over 150 students have contributed to this product in an industrial-like environment, preparing themselves for the rigors of professional programming. By moving to an Open Source environment, the continuing development of the CLforJava project will be augmented by professionals from around the globe collaborating with and helping teach our students.
