Three South Carolina Professionals Accepted to The Women’s Campaign School at Yale

Greenville, SC -- Pam Batson, Stacey Lemmond and Sheryl McAlister have been selected to attend The Women’s Campaign School (WCS) at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, July 14 – 18, 2009. The Women's Campaign School at Yale is a nonpartisan, issue-neutral political campaign training program. The school’s mission is to provide the best training in the world for women who want to run for office, who want to move up the ladder to higher elective office, or who want to support other women running for public office. Yale’s WCS trains women to run political campaigns and to advance their careers in public service.

With South Carolina statistically lagging behind other states regarding women in politics, it is an honor for three South Carolina professionals to be selected for this highly recognized and prestigious political campaign program. The program will offer valuable skills and resources Batson, Lemmond and McAlister as they forge into the political arena in a variety of capacities.

The Women's Campaign School Board President is another South Carolina woman, the Honorable Deb Sofield. Sofield is an award-winning speaker and executive speech and presentations coach who creates and trains world-class public speakers nationwide. Actively involved in her community and using the skills she helps impart to others through the Yale program, Sofield represents the City of Greenville as a Commissioner of Public Works for the Water System and is the first woman to hold this position since its inception in 1918. Sofield’s expertise is a valuable asset for both Yale’s WCS and our community as the doors begin to open for more women in the local and state political arena.
