Terra’s Howard Jarrett Earns Prestigious Wine Specialist Certification

Columbia (May 28, 2009) — Howard Jarrett, Terra’s general manager, has completed the Society of Wine Educators Wine Specialist Certification (CSW). Since the Certified Specialist of Wine credential was introduced, 3,000 industry professionals have successfully completed the rigorous examination worldwide, which recognizes exceptional standards in wine knowledge.

“It actually required plenty of studying including growing and production techniques, and the exam was tough,” says Jarrett. “But really this certification is what Terra’s all about – the freshest, inventive food paired thoughtfully with wine that enhances the taste of our dishes.” Each of Terra’s servers is encouraged to understand the restaurant’s wine, and with the wine specialist certification, Jarrett will continue to guide the staff and help them serve diners with their unparalleled wine knowledge.

The certification program was created by a committee of top professionals in the wine industry and measures expertise in all facets of wine including: wine growing, vineyard management, production techniques, major wine regions, major grape varietals, wine laws, health issues, wine quality and service.

With this credential, Terra patrons will experience a new level of skill and counsel on their wine choices. Terra’s Chef Mike Davis says, “I’m very proud of Howard’s accomplishment. He’s worked in restaurants for years, and his skill and experience are evident in the restaurant every night. This will bring a new standard to our restaurant and I’m certain our customers will appreciate and benefit from this certification.”
