Addison Homes Completes Anderson County's First EarthCraft House Certified Home

Addison Homes, LLC has completed Anderson County’s first EarthCraft House™ certified new home. The 3,000-square-foot residence in the Alston Oaks community of Anderson includes green features such as improved insulation, high efficiency air filters, and a well-designed duct system for fresh air exchange, even air distribution and proper ventilation throughout the home.
Other high-performance features of the EarthCraft House™ certified home are Low-E coded windows that are more effective at blocking the heating rays of the sun, representing a 50 percent improvement in insultation performance.
EarthCraft House™ is a residential green building program created in 1999 by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association in partnership with Southface Energy Institute. The program serves as a blueprint for healthy comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment. Any size or style of home at any price point can achieve EarthCraft House certification by meeting guidelines in areas such as site planning, an energy efficient building envelope, waste management, indoor air quality, and indoor and outdoor water conservation. EarthCraft House follows a systems approach to home building that stresses an understanding of how the different components of a home work together. This approach results in a home that performs better, is more economical for the homeowner, and costs little more to build than a comparable home built with standard construction practices.
Addison Homes builds of its houses to the rigorous ENERGY STAR® and EarthCraft House™ standards. In 2007, the company was named the EarthCraft House Regional Builder of the Year for its commitment to building healthy, durable homes in the Southeastern region of the
United States. In 2008, Addison Homes Founder and President Todd Usher was honored as the
2008 Sustainable Communities Champion by Upstate Forever and awarded the 2008 Individual Environmental Stewardship Award by the Upstate chapter of the US Green Building Council. In addition to Certified Green Professional, Usher holds numerous industry designations including South Carolina Master Builder, EarthCraft House™ Technical Advisor, National Green Building Program™ Accredited Verifier for the NAHB Research Center and ENERGY STAR® certified home energy rater.
