Made in America Green Jobs Tour
Clean energy workers, labor leaders and local clean energy businesses will continue a statewide Made in America Jobs Tour in the Upstate, highlighting the benefits to South Carolina workers and businesses of transitioning to a clean energy economy. The Center for American Progress says, transitioning to a clean energy economy will create more than 25,000 jobs here in South Carolina while reducing harmful carbon pollution and breaking our dependence on foreign oil.
“South Carolina workers and their families have been hit hard by the economic downturn, but we can create good jobs with good wages for today’s workers right here in South Carolina, right here in America, by investing in a clean energy economy,” said Douglas Wilson, Repower South Carolina Regional Field Director
The Made in America Jobs Tour, organized by the Blue Green Alliance and the Alliance for Climate Protection’s Repower America campaign, also included events in Columbia and Rock Hill.
“We can create millions of jobs building the clean energy economy – whether it’s manufacturing the parts for windmills, building hybrid car batteries or weatherizing homes to make them more efficient,” said David Foster, executive director of the Blue Green Alliance. “By transitioning to a clean energy economy, we can revitalize America’s manufacturing sector and boost our economy for the long run — by creating jobs ‘Made in America.’”
