MTC Instructor Named President of the Board of Directors for the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs
Janice Stoudemire, a Midlands Technical College accounting instructor, has assumed the office of president of the board of directors for the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), the leading specialized accreditation association for quality business education. The announcement was made at the ACBSP Annual Conference, held in San Antonio, Texas. Stoudemire began her one-year term as board president at the conclusion of that conference.
Stoudemire has been an active member of ACBSP for more than 16 years. In addition to serving on the board of directors, she serves as chair of the audit committee, nomination committee and personnel committee. She currently serves as co-chair of the annual conference committee; member of the executive committee; and board liaison to the strategic planning committee. She has also served two terms as chair of the associate degree board of commissioners.
Stoudemire has been an instructor at MTC for 24 years. Her credentials include CPA, ABA, ATA, five years of professional work experience, and a master’s in accountancy. Her dedication to the field of education has earned her more than 20 accolades at local, state and national levels, including a Region 3 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award, Governor’s Distinguished Professor Award, and ACCT’s Southern Region Outstanding Faculty Member Award. In 2007, Stoudemire was honored with the ACBSP Star Award, presented by the ACBSP staff in recognition of her volunteer leadership. Also in 2007, ACBSP Region 3 presented her with an Outstanding Service Citation.
“Janice is a valued leader of ACBSP, serving in many ways to promote our vision of being the global leader enhancing the quality of business schools and programs focused on teaching excellence,” said Douglas Viehland, ACBSP executive director. “We look forward to another year of growth in the number of schools accredited and reaffirmed by ACBSP under Janice’s leadership.”
ACBSP, founded in 1988 and located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, was created by its members to fulfill a need for specialized accreditation by institutions of higher education with business schools and programs. Specifically, that need for business education accreditation based on the mission of the institution and of the respective unit, an accreditation that acknowledged and emphasized quality in teaching and learning outcomes (www.acbsp.org).
ACBSP currently has more than 612 members in 32 countries and nine regions. Midlands Technical College is an accredited member of the Southeastern Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP Region 3), representing colleges and universities in South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Midlands Technical College is a comprehensive, multi-campus, public, two-year college serving the primary region of Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties of South Carolina. The college enrolls approximately 16,000 credit students annually, and provides continuing education to 30,000 individuals and hundreds of area businesses each year. MTC is the largest provider of transfer students to the University of South Carolina.
