Six Upstate Construction Companies Receive National Safety Awards, Two Other Companies Honored, at ABC Construction Conference
Greenville, SC — Six local companies with headquarters or regional offices in the Upstate are among a select group of firms to receive the 2009 STEP Award, a prestigious national safety award presented by the Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC). Award recipients with a strong local presence include BE&K Building Group, Rodgers Builders and Southern Piping Co., (Platinum level); M.B. Kahn and Waldrop Mechanical Services (Gold Level); and Creative Builders (Silver level).
Established more than 20 years ago, ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Awards program specifically recognizes construction companies for their achievements in safety training and self-evaluation, including their ongoing efforts to develop a quality safety program.
Bill Caldwell, chairman of the Upstate Council of ABC of the Carolinas, commented, “Creating safe work environments is a top priority for the ABC organization on a national, regional and local level. Here in the Upstate we are proud of our membership’s dedication and long-term commitment to jobsite safety.”
STEP award winners from our region were formally recognized at the 2009 ABC of the Carolinas Construction Conference held in Charleston last month. Chapter-level awards were also presented at the conference. Tradesmen International, a company with strong ties to the Upstate construction industry, was named ABC of the Carolinas “Supplier of the Year.” Tradesmen has a local office in Greenville and a district office in Charlotte. Regional CPA firm Dixon Hughes, which has offices in both Spartanburg and Greenville, received the “Associate Member of the Year Award.”
