BiblioLabs Establishes College of Charleston Computer Science Scholarships

The College of Charleston has announced today that BiblioLabs LLC will support four four-year tuition scholarships to academically competitive South Carolina students pursing a degree in computer science.

BiblioLabs owner and CEO Bob Holt says he hopes the scholarships will attract new computer science majors who demonstrate independent, creative and clever thinking.

Holt is a 1982 graduate of the College of Charleston and a former Hibernian Society and Foundation Scholar. He is also the former owner of BookSurge, which was sold to Amazon.com in 2005.

Other principals in the companies responsible for the scholarships are Mitchell Davis, a 1993 graduate of the College of Charleston and Jason Youmans, a 2002 graduate of the College.

“The financial support from BiblioLabs makes it possible to compete for South Carolina students who would have perhaps attended an out of state college for computer science, such as UNC Chapel Hill or Georgia Tech,” says Chris Starr, Chairman of the College of Charleston Computer Science Department. “The BiblioLife Scholars program funded by BiblioLabs draws attention to the top-rated computer science program offered at the College of Charleston, where faculty engage undergraduate majors in problem solving and research that integrate the liberal arts, creativity and innovation.”
