Upstate woos three electric vehicle manufacturers
By Jason Spencer
The established automotive industry in South Carolina's Upstate soon could get a jolt of new activity.
Three electric vehicle manufacturers are looking at sites here, and if any one of them chooses this area, the potential synergy that follows could open numerous doors to technological advances and spin-off companies -- not to mention hundreds, possibly thousands, of jobs.
The companies are:
CT&T United, an aggressive electric car manufacturer that forecasts creating 10,000 jobs nationwide in the next five years.
Proterra, a Golden, Colo.-based electric bus company that is looking to expand east, where it will be closer to its vendors and customers.
A third company that only has been described by multiple sources as a startup electric vehicle manufacturer based in Oregon.
