An Inside Look at the American Le Mans Racing Series – “The Global Leader of Green Racing” and the Michelin Green X Challen
An Evening with Scott Atherton
President/CEO, American Le Mans Racing Series
President/CEO, Panoz Motorsports Group
Scott Atherton, a graduate of the University of Washington, is recognized as one of the top executive leaders within the global motorsports industry. Prior to taking the reins of the American Le Mans Series and Panoz Motor Sports Group, he also served as President of California Speedway. Under his dynamic 9-year leadership at ALMS, the American Le Mans Racing Series has emerged as the most technologically advanced and innovation driven racing series in the world, along with F1 – truly enabling motorsports to serve as a laboratory for technology transfer into the automobile industry. As the “Global Leader of Green Racing,” ALMS has developed partnerships with internationally renowned manufacturers – such as BMW and Michelin – which fiercely pursue innovations in greener alternative fuels, more efficient engines, vehicle dynamics and tire technology, arguably making the ALMS the planet’s most relevant form of motorsports.
As a sponsor and integral partner in the ALMS, Michelin has furthered its commitment to environmental sustainability by sponsoring the Michelin Green X Challenge – a championship within ALMS which measures and rewards teams for achieving the highest performance on the race circuit with the greatest fuel efficiency and the least environmental impact.
