"From War to Wisdom: A Young Man's Dream to Educate a Country"

The International Center of the Upstate presents:

"From War to Wisdom: A Young Man's Dream to Educate a Country"
Wednesday, March 3 at 7pm

At the ICU: First floor of Greenville City Hall : 206 S. Main St.

This evening presentation is a rare opportunity to hear the remarkable story of one Lost Boy – Lubo "James" Mijak – who, at 18, was elected as a group leader in a refugee camp of 20,000 people. Today, he is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, a financial services assistant analyst, and a healthcare technician. He is also a young man with a dream. Lubo recently returned home and found himself surrounded by children clamoring for him to teach, and adults awed by his U.S. education. Partnering with Mothering Across Continents, a Carolinas-based non-profit with a vision of "Adopting Dreams. Raising Tomorrow's Leaders." - Lubo is leading an effort to build schools in the remote county of his childhood. In his words: "From education comes wisdom, and with wisdom perhaps there will not be war."

Also in attendance will be photographer David Johnson of Silent Images: A Voice for the Voiceless. David has personally documented the grueling situations faced by many Sudanese citizens. This evening, he will share them with us through his remarkable photo exhibit, further sensitizing us to the extraordinary challenges of life in the Sudan .

Join us for a presentation, Q&A, and photo exhibit, as Lubo shares lessons learned from his harrowing and inspiring journey. This presentation is free for ICU members; non-members must pay $10, cash or check, at the door.

RSVP is required, email us at info@internationalupstate.org or call 864-467-4579 to reserve your spot.
