FOURTH ANNUAL INDIE GRITS FILM FEST RETURNS

WHAT: The Nickelodeon Theater, South Carolina’s only non-profit art house film theater, will host the fourth annual Indie Grits Film Fest Wednesday April 14 – Sunday, April 18.

The juried festival is quickly becoming a major cultural event in South Carolina, and in 2009 the event drew 23 filmmakers of 150 entries to Columbia. Indie Grits welcomes first-time filmmakers as well as experienced media makers, and the result is a varied collection of creative Indie films, with something to suit everyone’s tastes.

WHERE: Films and locations are still being determined, but screenings will take place at the Nickelodeon Theatre at 937 Main Street and in the lobby of the Fox Theater. Several other venues around town such as 701 Center for Contemporary Art and Hunter Gatherer will also host festival-related events.

NEW THIS YEAR: On Thursday evening, Indie Grits will showcase a collection of treasures from the University of South Carolina’s extensive Moving Image Research Collections.

Friday evening, after the films are shown, there will be an after-party at The Arcade Mall on Main Street with live music.

On Saturday afternoon, Indie Grits will host a workshop called Works in Progress with two filmmakers, who discuss the filmmaking and editing process at 701 Center for Contemporary Art.

DON’T MISS: On Saturday evening, Indie Grits will exhibit the work of four different experimental filmmakers in buildings along Main Street in anticipation of the Nickelodeon Theatre’s move to the Fox Theatre on Main Street in 2010.
