David Boulton Visiting Greenville, South Carolina March 22-23 to Kick Off “Reading by 8” Project

Prominent Literacy Activist Boulton Will Speak to Over 14 Groups Throughout Greenville County

March 5, 2010 (Greenville, South Carolina) ⎯ David Boulton, a learning-activist, technologist, author, and nationally known public speaker, will be presenting his platform for ‘turning up the learning’ at a series of events March 22-23, 2010, hosted by the Reading By 8 Project in Greenville, South Carolina.
Boulton is the president of Learning Stewards, a non-profit organization, and is the director of the national education project, Children of the Code (http://www.childrenofthecode.org). He is well known by educators for his work on the societal and emotional effects of learning difficulties and the challenges our children’s brains face when learning to read.
In presentations and discussions, Boulton will draw on his work on the Children of the Code Project to connect the dots between ‘turning up the learning’ and improving the health and development of individuals, families, communities, schools, businesses, workforces, and our overall economy.

Of the series, there is a special event open to the public on Monday, March 22, 2010 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. The title of the event is: SHAME: Is it undermining your children’s learning? The event will be held at University Center of Greenville Auditorium and is open to the first 200 people to RSVP (http://322public.eventbrite.com/).

Other events during the two-day period will be targeted to the multiple groups identified by the newly formed Reading by 8 project, which will include business groups, the school district, workforces and civic organizations. Attendance at these events is by invitation only. David Boulton’s schedule is also available at (http://ready4reading.org/reading-by-8/).
