Diane E. Sumpter appointed to the Midlands Technical College Commission

Diane E. Sumpter has been appointed to serve on the Midlands Technical College Commission. The Midlands Technical College Commission is a 12-member board representing the college’s service area. Members are appointed by the governor, upon the recommendation of their respective legislative delegations, to serve as trustees for the college.

Diane E. Sumpter is the founder, president and chief executive officer of DESA, Inc., and has spent more than 40 years working as a catalyst for change in South Carolina and the nation. As a business leader, she has concentrated on economic development while leading advocacy efforts for small, minority and women-owned businesses. As a community activist, Sumpter has also dedicated time and resources to the causes of educational advancement and cultural awareness.

Midlands Technical College is a comprehensive, multi-campus, public, two-year college serving the primary region of Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties of South Carolina. The college enrolls approximately 18,000 credit students annually, and provides continuing education to 30,000 individuals and hundreds of area businesses each year. MTC is the largest provider of transfer students to the University of South Carolina.
