Local Non-Profit Launches Timebank in Charleston

Helping Lowcountry Residents Get “Back On Track”

Charleston, SC- Back On Track Charleston launched their organization’s bartering timebank on their website www.backontrackcharleston.org today, allowing Lowcountry residents and businesses to barter within the community in an effort to reduce financial burden as well as strengthen community ties.

“We researched for several months to find the most cost effective way to allow people to barter without having to charge them a fee. We didn’t want it to be about money, we wanted something that would help weave a stronger community, promote volunteering, and allow people to benefit from their skills even if they didn’t have any money. We finally came across a great site called www.timebanks.org and after reading their mission statement, we knew they were exactly what we had been looking for”- Arlene Lagos Founder of Back on Track Charleston

Barter is the oldest form of commerce, and the site is designed to encourage volunteering within the community, as well as utilizing skills to attain goods and services that you otherwise couldn’t afford to pay for. All one needs is time and skill to participate and the benefits are priceless.

The Non-Profit also plans to open a resource center in the coming months that will offer free services to residents that need to find employment, learn how to access different services in the community as well as giving them a forum in which to meet with other residents for work, volunteer or barter efforts. If you are interested in attending a free seminar you can go online and check the calendar of events for upcoming speaking engagements.

To register on the free site, all you have to do is log onto www.backontrackcharleston.org and click on bartering or if you need a team representative to walk you through the process, you can email any of our officers for help. If you are interested in becoming a “neighborhood hero” on our site, we are accepting donations of any kind.
