Upstate Filmmaker to Screen Acclaimed Indie Film in Greenville
Supernatural Thriller Filmed on Location in Travelers Rest
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Hollywood returns to Greenville for one night only on April 27, 2010,
when the Camelot Cinemas hosts a one-night sneak preview of upcoming supernatural thriller The Hanged Man, which was shot on location in Travelers Rest, S.C., and will be released nationally by Osiris Entertainment on May 25.
The film was written and produced by long-time Greenville resident Glenn Hopper with many Upstate locals filling out the film crew, and two residents (David Evette and Joey Nesta of Travelers Rest) making on-screen appearances. Film stars Brandon Gibson (Spartanburg) and Shanola Hampton (Summerville) now live in the Los Angeles area, but both have roots in South Carolina.
Hopper conceived, wrote and produced the film while working as the budget director at NuVox Communications. While Hopper pulled in several industry professionals to serve key roles in the production, he staffed most of the crew positions with Upstate talent in roles ranging from camera operator to production sound and grip and lighting personnel.
“The Upstate has some great film talent,” Hopper said. “I really couldn’t have dreamed of a more accommodating, professional, friendly, helpful environment in which to make a film.”
“The funny thing,” Hopper added, “as great as all the local talent who worked on this film is, to this day when I talk to the out-of-town crew who came in to work on this project, the first thing they mention (without fail) is how great the food was!” Hopper said film caterer Ms. Ann from Ann’s Cakes and Catering was something of a hero to the cast and crew when she brought in breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The Hanged Man is now being released nationally next month. Hopper said, however, that with all of the local involvement from investors to cast and crew, he is excited to give the local residents who made the film possible a chance to preview the film before the national release date.
There will be two free showings of The Hanged Man, which will screen with the short film SPLIT from local filmmakers Johnny Priest and Mac Allen of Last Call Pictures.
SPLIT has shown locally and is now making the festival circuit, and was recently accepted by the Central Florida Film Festival, where it will show early this fall.
