Ponton Completes Advanced Clinical Training For Treatment Of Depression
GREENVILLE, SC - Dr. Marina Ponton, acupuncture physician and owner of Greenville Natural Health Center, has completed a five-day advanced clinical training program for the diagnosis and treatment of depression using acupuncture and complementing therapies such as topical herbs and breathing and movement exercises.
The Non-Somatic Extraordinary Vessel Acupuncture Training Program was taught by Miami acupuncture physician Daniel J. Atchison-Nevel, co-founder of the South Florida Healing Arts Center, one of the area’s first collaborative health centers. Nevel has served as academic dean and instructor for acupuncture colleges, and conducted research and published studies on the use of Acupuncture’s Extraordinary Vessels in the treatment of depression.
“Research on this approach in the treatment of clinical depression was conducted in conjunction with Florida International University and published in the 1990’s,” said Ponton. “Interest continues to grow nationally and worldwide, and I look forward to incorporating these diagnostic and treatment methods into my practice.”
Dr. Ponton opened Greenville Natural Health Center in 2007, specializing in women’s health and wellness. The Center integrates biomedicine (Western medicine) with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), utilizing a holistic (mind-body) approach to issues such as chronic fatigue, menopause and infertility. A licensed acupuncture physician, Dr. Ponton has studied at the American University of Paris, FAMU University in Prague, The University of Miami, and The Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine. She presently is part of the 2010 Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) class at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland. The highest level of academic achievement presently available to acupuncture practitioners in the United States, a DAOM will allow Dr. Ponton to work on government or privately funded research projects and to teach at the university level.
