Richardson Plowden Attorneys Cotter and Matthews Selected to SC Bar House of Delegates
COLUMBIA, S.C., April XX, 2010 - - Richardson, Plowden & Robinson, P.A., is pleased to announce that attorneys Leslie A. Cotter, Jr., and Eugene H. Matthews were recently selected to another session of the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates. Cotter has served on the House of Delegates since 1992 and Matthews has served since 2006. The South Carolina Bar House of Delegates establishes policies for the Bar. It meets at least twice a year and includes delegates from each judicial circuit. Cotter and Matthews will serve as delegates for the Fifth Judicial Circuit.
Cotter is a shareholder in Richardson Plowden and the practice group leader of the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group. He focuses his practice on professional malpractice defense, insurance defense litigation, mediation and arbitration, employment and civil rights litigation, products liability and personal injury defense, and governmental liability defense. Cotter has been a certified mediator by the S.C. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina since 1999. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, the American Bar Association, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association. In addition to the House of Delegates, Cotter serves in other leadership roles within the South Carolina Bar, including chairman of the Practice and Procedure Committee and as a member of the Nominating Committee.
Matthews is a shareholder in Richardson Plowden and the practice group leader of the Firm’s Employment Law Practice Group. In addition to employment law, Matthews focuses on administrative and regulatory law, civil rights litigation, and appellate litigation. He is certified by the S.C. Supreme Court as a specialist in employment and labor law. He has extensive experience advising clients and litigating claims concerning a variety of employment and other business, administrative, and appellate issues. Prior to joining Richardson Plowden, Matthews served as an intelligence officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, head of the Division of Labor at the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and Deputy Director/General Counsel of the S.C. Department of Public Safety. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia. In addition to the House of Delegates, Matthews serves in a variety of other leadership roles at the South Carolina Bar, including chairman of the Employment and Labor Law Council and chairman of the CLE Publications Committee.
