New Chair at Smith Moore Leatherwood Envisions Sustained Growth
(Charlotte, NC) – April 27, 2010 – Rob Marcus, whose practice is based in Smith Moore Leatherwood’s Charlotte office, has been named chair of the firm’s management committee. Marcus succeeds Steve Earp, who has served as chair for the past eight years.
Marcus has been the partner-in-charge of Smith Moore Leatherwood’s Charlotte office since it was established in 2007. Prior to moving to the Charlotte office, he practiced in the Greensboro office since joining the firm in 1993. His practice focuses on complex commercial and appellate litigation.
“I feel very fortunate to be taking on this role during such an exciting time at Smith Moore Leatherwood,” Marcus says. “Over the past few years, we have added numerous talented attorneys to our ranks and have expanded our presence in key cities in the Southeast. I'm looking forward to continuing this positive growth so that we can remain well positioned to provide our clients with the best services possible."
Earp says the same qualities that make Marcus an exceptional attorney make him well suited to lead the firm. “With his brain power and leadership skills, Rob will be fantastic in his new role,” Earp says. “He is a gifted lawyer and a great listener, who knows how to take advantage of the strength we have on our management team and throughout each of our six offices. And, it’s an added bonus that Rob is geographically positioned in Charlotte, which represents one of our biggest growth markets.”
With Marcus assuming chairmanship of the Management Committee, Earp will remain a partner at Smith Moore Leatherwood. “This transition is part of the planned course of succession we have had in place for a few years,” Earp explains. “George Washington decided that eight years was long enough for one person to be leader; I think he had it figured about right.”
