Riley Communications Wins Mercury Award

COLUMBIA, SC (April 27, 2010) — Riley Communications took home the South Carolina Public Relations Society of America’s (SCPRSA) Mercury Award of Merit at the organization’s statewide awards ceremony Apr. 22. The company received the award in the brand/reputation management category for its successful campaign for Columbia restaurant, Terra.

“We are so happy to win this award for our work with Terra, whose success is really just a product of the strategy we laid out for them months ago, as we do for all of our clients,” said Riley Communications lifestyle public relations manager Katie Alice Walker. “Attending the James Beard Foundation dinner in New York with Chef Davis and the Terra crew was reward enough, but this award is the icing on the cake.”

The award winning campaign garnered national exposure for Terra and chef and owner Mike Davis with an invitation to cook his esteemed, innovative Southern menu at the James Beard House in New York and being named the Rising Star in Restaurant Hospitality magazine. Locally, Riley Communications executed a media relations campaign that resulted in a variety of press coverage and an unprecedented increase in patrons for the restaurant.

“We really enjoy working with Riley Communications, and it is great to receive this recognition,” said Terra chef and owner Mike Davis. “They’ve been instrumental in spreading the word about our commitment to farm to table food in Columbia and beyond.”

Riley Communications continues to work with Terra on the West Columbia restaurant’s various sustainable food initiatives and special events. CEO Jacque Riley is an active SCPRSA member serving on multiple committees and mentoring public relations students at the University of South Carolina.
