Upstate CFP Chris Beard Named To National Ethics Commission

(Greenville, S.C., May 21, 2010) – Certified Financial Planner™ Chris Beard from Greenville, S.C., has been appointed to serve a two-year term on the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Disciplinary and Ethics Commission. CFP Board of Standards, Inc., is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

The commission oversees the conduct of more than 61,000 CFP® professionals nationwide—a vital task to ensure the CFP® certification is upheld as the recognized standard of excellence in personal financial planning. Beard is the only one of the nine active commissioners who is based in the Southeast. (To view current board: http://www.cfp.net/aboutus/dec.asp)

“We are facing some confusing and, at moments, downright frightening financial times; this has made families reassess their finances,” said Beard, a CFP for 11 years. “It’s critical that the person entrusted with oversight of your financial affairs has your complete confidence and trust. To my knowledge, no other profession goes to the lengths that CFP Board of Standards does to ensure ethical conduct and behavior from its members.”

The Disciplinary and Ethics Commission meets three times annually in Washington, D.C., to conduct disciplinary hearings for potential ethical violations involving CFP® certificants. The Commission has the ability to impose, where necessary, the appropriate discipline based on the severity of the offense—ranging from dismissal with caution to revocation of the CFP® marks.
Before being named to the commission, Beard served as a volunteer in 2009, participating in the review of several cases on behalf of the CFP Board’s Investigative and Hearing Process.

"I am proud to have Chris as a member of the Raymond James Financial Services team and congratulate him on his new appointment and willingness to serve his profession in this manner," said RJFS Chairman & CEO Dick Averitt. "Putting clients' interests first, maintaining high ethical standards in their practice and promoting professionalism in the industry are a matter of routine for RJFS advisors."

Beard, whose office is located at the Bank of Travelers Rest at 201 Pelham Rd., serves on the Greenville County United Way Campaign Cabinet, and is a member of The Rotary Club of Greenville and the Greenville Estate Planning Council. A graduate of Clemson University, he can be reached at 864.660.7647 or at chris.beard@raymondjames.com.
