Godshall's Truesdale Addresses Certified Medical Assistant Society

Karen Truesdale of Godshall recently addressed the Pickens County Certified Medical Assistant Society on how to obtain a clinical job and keep it. A professional recruiter, Truesdale specializes in job placement for medial and general office positions.

“According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assistant will be the fastest-growing occupation through 2012, and we see that demand here in the Upstate, as well,” said Truesdale.
“Technological advances in medicine and an aging population are bringing more patients to clinics and hospitals, spurring the need for additional support personnel.” Nationally, about 60 percent of CMA’s work in physicians' offices, 14 percent serve in hospitals, and about10 percent work in other health practitioners' offices

A Certified Medical Assistant’s general administrative duties include greeting patients, answering phones, updating and filing patients' medical records, filling out insurance forms and handling billing. Clinical duties vary according to state law, but generally include recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood, urinalysis testing, and assisting the physician during examinations.
