(Columbia) A group aimed at growing the exporting potential of South Carolina products has expanded its ranks. US Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke is appointing four new members to the South Carolina District Export Council (DEC).

The new members bring decades of experience from fields as diverse as international banking, forest products exports, medical technology, and law:

• Aaron Zynczak, Senior Vice President with Carolina First, is experienced in the field of international banking.

• Dr. Tim Adams, economic development dir. with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, brings expertise in the field of forest resource development.

• David Boucher, President of Companion Global Healthcare, works in the field of medical care and international medical tourism.

• Jay Rogers is an attorney with the firm of Womble Carlisle Sandridge, and Rice. Jay has a broad legal background with expertise including US and foreign Customs matters and economic development incentives.

Zyncak, Adams, Boucher, and Rogers each will serve three years, their terms ending in 2013 with the possibility of renewal. They’ll join an elite group of business professionals from around the state who meet to explore ways for South Carolina firms to compete internationally.

"We are pleased to have these four new members join the District Export Council. Each of our members provides a unique perspective on all aspects of international trade, which is exactly the DEC's purpose: to provide a voice for South Carolina exporters and engage them in international trade. I am certain that these new additions to the DEC will greatly enhance this mission,” says DEC chairman Jim Cox.

The SC District Export Council is this state’s component a larger national group tasked with helping the US Commercial Service with export promotion. They create seminars on export basics and trade finance, host international buyer delegations, design how-to guides and web pages to help firms export, and help build export assistance partnerships which strengthen the support offered to companies seeking to do business beyond our borders.

The new SC DEC members will join 24 other SC DEC members volunteering their time by sponsoring and participating in trade promotion. Simultaneously, they’ll provide invaluable expertise to small and medium-sized SC businesses looking to export their products and services.

Attorney Jay Rogers says he and the other new members will hit the ground running. "I look forward to working with my colleagues at the S.C. District Export Council. In just the short time I've been involved with the DEC, I've been able to network with manufacturers and service providers who have a very good reading on what our state needs to make companies succeed in exporting," Rogers said.
