A conversation with a friend: It is all about freelancing right now
A twitter post from me: From the Prophet Ronald: Government's view of the economy. "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."
Response from an entrepreneur friend in Asheville: Love this!
Me I wonder how many youngsters have no clue what I'm talking about ;-) Hope all is well with you.
My friend: Not many.. but I think one more dip in this economy and they’ll learn. I am well – hope you are!
Me: Most of the freelancers I know are telling me that business has never been better. I hope that is an early warning signal that companies have cut back so much on capacity that as they begin to grow again they are having to outsource some of what they need. Real estate remains a disaster, but that will be the last thing to recover and it probably will take a long time. There are still million and a half dollar condos for sale in downtown Greenville, and some of them are moving so even real estate is not completely dead.
My friend: I agree.. it is all about freelancing right now.. my business is stronger this year than it has ever been.. I really think we are going through an industrial shift.. people want the freedom to work when and how they want, and companies need the freedom to hire as they need to and not carry the overhead when they are not producing. The answer lies in personal responsibility.. the quicker we can stop relying on government to care for us.. or putting the burden on corporations or businesses to supply all the insurance, disability etc.. the stronger workforce, society and charitable giving we will see..
I think these are the MOST fascinating and interesting times… serious changes happening.. it's hard but I have so much faith in people..
An economic forecaster in Asheville the other week said we will most likely not see real estate return to where it was in our lifetime.. supposedly we have a 20-year inventory of 1 million dollar homes up here.. we are moving 250,000 to 500,000 homes but not above.. kind of good I guess in that we are returning to more reasonable and simpler times!
