National Social Story Conference Series Starting in Greenville - September 24

Greenville, South Carolina - Businesses and non-profits of all sizes are facing two seemingly daunting challenges: how to stay alive and grow in a tough economy and how to effectively connect with new and existing customers in a rapidly changing media landscape. Enter the Social Story Conference, a unique new national conference series with strong Greenville roots planning its debut on September 24 at The Warehouse Theatre in downtown Greenville.

Trey Pennington, the Social Story Conference founder, says that the conference is designed to help organizations “discover, develop, and deliver their unique stories, helping to foster authentic relationships with new and existing customers.” Pennington, a Greenville resident, is an international speaker on social media, word of mouth marketing, and storytelling. He is well known locally for his community involvement and for his presence on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, where his profiles rank in the top 0.01% most influential in the world.

Conference organizers have been hard at work putting together an all-star speaker lineup for the Greenville event, ranging from professional storytellers, marketing experts, and social media enthusiasts. Pennington will be presenting alongside Rick Murray, President of Edelman Digital, the world’s largest independent PR firm; Sean Buvala, who has over 25 years of non-profit and business storytelling experience; Olivier Blanchard and Amber Osborne, popular social media practitioners who’ve each amassed huge online followings, and local favorite TimTV, the dynamic performance artist who mesmerized audiences at the spring TEDxGreenville event.

The presenters will also help answer audience questions and share what they’ve learned from their extensive personal experience crafting their own authentic stories to help develop meaningful and profitable relationships with their customers. The event will go well beyond the latest trends in social media. “More than ever before, customers want to connect to the people and stories behind the products and services they purchase. That relationship begins with the organization’s story,” says Pennington.

“Many organizations today make the mistake of trying to utilize social media to connect to their customers before they’ve really thought about who they are at their core and what story and message they are trying to convey. The reality is that once you’ve developed your story, it becomes much easier to identify the best media platforms, tools, and strategies to help that story spread. And that’s exactly what the Social Story Conference is going to help people do,” says co-presenter Sean Buvala.
