Howden to Relocate North American Headquarters to Columbia
Camden, S.C. – Howden North America Inc., a world supplier of fans, rotary heat exchangers, compressors and gas handling equipment for the biomass, cement, HVAC, iron & steel, mining, navy & maritime, nuclear, petrochemical, power, transportation and tunnel ventilation industries, announced today that it is relocating its corporate office from Camden, S.C. to Columbia, S.C. The company, formerly known as Howden Buffalo Inc., also announced that it will now be known as Howden North America Inc.
The company, which employs 89 people and moved to Camden in 1999, will move into 18,200-square-feet of office space located at 7909 Parklane Road later this month. The building was built in 1990 and has approximately 800 employees. Howden’s employees will move in to the building on Friday, September 24. They will open for business on Monday, September 27.
“This is an economic and business decision to better meet the demands of our customers and employees,” said Karl Kimmerling, President and CEO of Howden North America Inc. “The new facility offers us flexibility to adapt with market dynamics. It is a modernized building with improved functionality, and it is closer to the vast majority of our employee’s homes. Additionally, the location provides better access to an international airport and attracts a larger pool of potential employees from Lexington, Columbia and the University of South Carolina. We are proud to call it home.”
Prior to the move, a silent auction will be held for Howden employees to bid on office furniture that will not be a part of the new facility. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Soup Kitchen in Camden. All remaining office furniture that is not auctioned will be given to the Kershaw County school district.
Howden equipment can be found in virtually every industry but particularly in the biomass, cement, HVAC, iron & steel, mining, navy & maritime, nuclear, petrochemical, power, transportation and tunnel ventilation sectors, where the most arduous air and gas handling jobs are found.
Howden has introduced many innovations to the market, from the forced draught system and the invention of the diaphragm compressor to the commercialization of the rotary heat exchanger and the screw compressor. Howden products are known throughout the world for their high levels of performance, reliability and state-of-the-art technology, with unique expertise in aerodynamics, acoustics, stress and vibration analysis, and rotor dynamics.
Howden North America Inc. (www.howden.com), a subsidiary of Anderson Group Incorporated, is the North American licensee of Howden, which employs approximately 3,800 people in 17 countries throughout the world. Aside from Howden North America’s corporate office, there are operational facilities in Williamsville, N.Y., New Philadelphia, Ohio, Canton, Mich. and Mexico City.
