Turner Padget’s Frank Shuler Authors Book on Drafting Employee Policies
COLUMBIA, S.C., September 21, 2010 — Turner Padget Graham & Laney, P.A. is pleased to announce that Franklin “Frank” G. Shuler, Jr., a shareholder in the firm, has authored a book titled A Guide to Drafting an Employee Policies Manual. The publication, now in its eighth edition, is produced by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce as part of its Carolina Legal Reference Series. The book serves as a guide to South Carolina businesses to ensure that employment policies adequately address new amendments and regulations.
“Employment law is rarely stagnant, and it is important for employers to continually review and update their employment policies,” said Mr. Shuler. “This reference book to South Carolina businesses not only provides drafts of common policies, but also addresses legal considerations that often plague employers, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the ever-evolving issues surrounding electronic communications and social media.”
Mr. Shuler has authored several employment law publications for the South Carolina Chamber. He has been practicing employment law for over 25 years in virtually all aspects of labor and employment law, including matters arising under federal employment laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). Mr. Shuler has also addressed actions based on state law claims such as retaliatory discharge, breach of a handbook and breach of a covenant not to compete.
The Carolina Legal Reference Series serves as a tool to the South Carolina business community. An extensive library of resource materials covering topics from human resources to OSHA standards was started in 1994, and has over the years expanded to serve businesses in North Carolina and Virginia as well. Each piece is written by labor and employment attorneys within the state covered by the publication.
