Lay and Sojourner selected as Greater Columbia Business Monthly’s 2010 Legal Elite

COLUMBIA, S.C., October 4, 2010 - - John T. Lay, Jr., and David C. Sojourner, Jr., both shareholders at Ellis Lawhorne, have been selected by their peers as Greater Columbia Business Monthly magazine’s 2010 Legal Elite.

Greater Columbia Business Monthly invited Midlands attorneys to nominate the attorney who they consider the best in his or her practice area. There were eight different practice categories. Lay was selected for the Personal Injury category and Sojourner was selected for the Taxes, Estates and Trusts category. The top ten attorneys in each category were selected for the Legal Elite listing featured in the October 2010 issue. Lay and Sojourner were chosen from more than 250 nominations.

A member of the Ellis Lawhorne Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, Lay focuses his practice in the areas of complex litigation, commercial litigation, and product liability. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1991. He is the past-president of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association, was recently selected to the 2011 edition of Best Lawyers in America® and was recognized as a 2010 South Carolina Super Lawyer. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar Association, and the International Association of Defense Counsel.

Sojourner is a member of the Ellis Lawhorne Trusts and Estates Practice Group. He focuses his practice on complex personal and professional tax planning issues. He earned his Juris Doctor
from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1983 and hi LL.M. in Taxation from the
New York University School of Law in 1987. Sojourner was recently selected to the 2011 edition of Best Lawyers in America® and was recognized as a 2010 South Carolina Super Lawyer. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Richland County Bar Association.
