King Named to Environmental Technical Committee of the South Carolina Chamber

COLUMBIA, S.C., October 13, 2010 - - Ellis Lawhorne is pleased to announce that Jessica J.O. King has been named to the Environmental Technical Committee of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the committee, King will provide legal insight on environmental issues, regulations, laws and proposed laws that affect South Carolina businesses.

The Environmental Technical Committee is composed of individuals from engineering, law, and business fields in South Carolina who meet once a month to discuss issues related to air quality, energy, water, and hazardous waste that affect South Carolina businesses. The committee educates and informs Chamber members on procedures and practices required by new environmental regulations and/or legislation, both state and federal. The committee is highly relevant to businesses and the public as efforts to protect and preserve the environment are high. Some of South Carolina’s environmental laws are more stringent than national laws, which may prevent companies from locating to South Carolina.

King is an Of Counsel member of the Ellis Lawhorne Business, Real Estate and Finance Practice Group. She focuses her practice in the areas of environmental issues that arise in administrative matters, business transactions, complex litigation, real estate transactions, and regulatory matters. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1996. Prior to joining Ellis Lawhorne, King served as Chief Counsel of Environmental Quality Control for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). She is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Environmental Resources section of the South Carolina Bar. She is on the board of CREW Midlands, an organization that promotes women leaders in commercial real estate.
