Woodlands at Furman to Host Health Fair

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Woodlands at Furman will host a community health fair at the end of October – just the latest example of this Life Care community giving back to the Upstate.
The event on October 29 will feature speakers, flu shots, blood pressure screenings, eye screenings, hearing screenings and gluten free baked goods. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Lectures will include community leader Nancy Welch talking about laughter as the best medicine from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Kim Atchley, president of Media Women of South Carolina, speaking about breaking down communications barriers at 11:30, Dr. Desmond Smith speaking about cardiovascular disease prevention at 1 p.m. and Dr. Connie Ross addressing proper bone health for seniors beginning at 2 p.m.

This is just another way The Woodlands at Furman is helping aid the Upstate. In the past few months, staff and residents have raised money for the Greenville Humane Society through its “Dog Days of Summer” campaign and this month is focused on breast cancer awareness through the Susan B. Komen Foundation. In November, they are planning a can drive benefiting local soup kitchens and December will feature Operation Christmas Child.

“One of the major goals of The Woodlands at Furman is to be an integral part of the Upstate community,” said Troy Cannaday, the community’s executive director. “Our residents want to be involved in making the region a stronger place to live.

The Woodlands at Furman is a non-profit, mission driven Life Care retirement community owned and operated by a local board of directors and managed professionally by Greystone Communities. The 22-acre campus, adjacent to Furman University, opened in March 2009 and consists of 132 apartment homes in addition to The Arboretum, a separate, but attached section of the Woodlands, opened in June 2009. The Arboretum includes 32 assisted living apartments, 16 memory support suites and 30 skilled nursing suites. Residents enjoy a wide range of amenities - enabling them to continue an active and engaged lifestyle. For more information, please visit www.thewoodlandsatfurman.org or call 864-371-3100.
