Riley Communications Wins Regional, Statewide IABC Awards

Columbia, S.C. (November 8, 2010) — Riley Communications won two International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) awards in the past month, including a 14-state regional Silver Quill Award and a statewide Palmetto Award of Excellence for its work with local restaurant Terra.

“Working with Terra has been a great opportunity for our firm,” says Riley Communications Lifestyle PR Manager Katie Alice Walker, who accepted the award November 4 in Columbia, S.C. “Great food always makes a great story! Plus, Chef Mike Davis and his staff are always open to creative ideas, and they understand the value of marketing and public relations.”

Terra’s brand and reputation management campaign included expanding the restaurant’s local clientele as well as establishing Chef/Owner Mike Davis as an up-and-comer on the national food scene — ultimately resulting in a February invitation to prepare a “Southern Roots” dinner at the James Beard House in New York. Riley Communications also employed social media in the campaign to enrich the Terra brand and establish a conversation with the restaurant’s local Midlands audience.

Judges for the Silver Quill Award, which was presented in Atlanta October 28, called the campaign a “great approach” that “combin[ed] fun events and innovations with traditional media and outreach. Results show… efforts have paid off.” The campaign also won the third-highest overall ranking among 30 entries at the Palmetto Awards ceremony.

In 2009, Riley Communications took home the Palmetto Awards “Star of the Show” honor for this highest-ranking campaign for community relations surrounding the Congaree Vista Guild’s Viva La Vista food festival.
