Ellis Lawhorne’s Walker Named to the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association

COLUMBIA, S.C., November 30, 2010 - - Ellis Lawhorne’s Breon C. M. Walker has been named to the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association (SCDTAA). Walker joins Ellis Lawhorne shareholder A. Johnston Cox on the 32-member committee, which is composed of attorneys from across the state.

Formally organized in 1968, the SCDTAA works to promote justice, professionalism, and integrity in the civil justice system by bringing together attorneys dedicated to the defense of civil actions. The organization has more than 750 members who practice in multiple areas of civil defense litigation in private practice and in corporate law. The SCDTAA has consistently received the Excellence Award from the DRI, a national defense trial attorney advocacy organization. This award recognizes the organization’s strong membership, as well as its leadership in the areas of continuing legal education and legislative matters.

Walker is a member of the Ellis Lawhorne Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, where she focuses her practice on motor vehicle liability, premises liability, product liability, and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Ellis Lawhorne, Walker practiced in both the civil and criminal divisions of the South Carolina Office of the Attorney General. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina Honors College and her juris doctor from Emory University School of Law in 2003.

Walker is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Richland County Bar Association. She also was selected as a member of the 2010-2011 Leadership Columbia class sponsored by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and was recently named a finalist in South Carolina Lawyers Weekly Emerging Legal Leaders Award, the winners of which will be announced in January 2011.
