Indie Grits Named One of 20 Coolest Film Festivals In The World
Indie Grits, a juried film competition that focuses on empowering all levels of Southern filmmakers with an independent mentality and far-reaching artistic scope, has been named one of the world’s 20 coolest film festivals by Movie Maker magazine. Indie Grits will take place April 13-17, 2011.
“It’s great to be recognized with this list,” says Andy Smith, Indie Grits festival director. “In its fifth year this spring, Indie Grits will be even better with the addition of some new events surrounding the festival as well as Helen Hill’s final work, “The Florestine Dresses. The fact that we focus exclusively on work from the Southeast, and particularly on work from young and edgy mediamakers really sets us apart in the festival world. We are thrilled that our little festival is finally starting to get some national attention.”
From Movie Maker magazine: “For better or worse, everyone remembers his or her first time….first time screening at a film festival, that is. For up-and-coming moviemakers in particular, the festival circuit can be an intimidating place. So the kind folks at Indie Grits make it a point to ensure that a moviemaker’s maiden voyage is a (pleasantly) memorable one.”
Other film festivals on Movie Maker’s list include cities like Asheville, NC, Palm Springs, CA, New York, Los Angeles, Portland, OR, Denver, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Ontario.
