Central Carolina Community Foundation Awards Community Impact Grants
Columbia, SC (January 3, 2011) — Central Carolina Community Foundation recently awarded Community Impact grants totaling $208,960 to 12 nonprofit organizations serving the Midlands. These grants support creative and innovative programs that address Central Carolina Community Foundation’s three key initiatives — dropout prevention, homelessness prevention and illiteracy reduction.
One grant recipient is Save the Children Federation Inc. This nonprofit received $40,000 to provide literacy programs during and after school at two local elementary schools, Bethune-Bowman and Manning Elementary. Mental Illness Recovery Center Inc. received a $30,000 Community Impact grant to further the growth of the Homeless Recovery Center (HRC), a community based drop-in center in downtown Columbia. College Summit also received $30,000 to help identify and support students who need assistance in their pursuit of a higher education. Funding will aid 550 high school seniors in the Midlands area.
Other grant recipients include: Alston Wilkes Society, Central Carolina Lutheran Outreach Center, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Lexington School District One Educational Foundation, Lutheran Family Services, Midlands Education and Business Alliance, Project Life: Positeen, Richland One Middle College Foundation and the Salvation Army.
